Calculation methodology

Definitions, rounding choices and boundaries used across LabelOps Lab.

Units and precision

Physical inputs are normalized to millimetres. Intermediate calculations retain JavaScript double precision; displayed values are rounded for readability. Resource quantities are rounded down for capacity and up for requirements.

Roll geometry

Web length uses the annular-area approximation L = π(D² − d²)/(4t), where D is outer diameter, d is core diameter and t is combined wound-layer caliper. Label count divides this length by feed pitch.

Printer raster

Printer dots use dots = physical inches × DPI. Nearest rounding minimizes absolute geometric error; floor and ceiling are exposed where directional error matters. ZPL is a registered trademark of Zebra Technologies and is referenced descriptively.

Check digits

GTIN and SSCC checks use the GS1 modulo-10 method: body digits are weighted 3 and 1 from right to left and the final digit completes the next multiple of ten. GS1 is a trademark of GS1 AISBL. LabelOps Lab is independent and does not allocate or certify identifiers.

Barcode dimensions

The optimizer selects the closest candidate among user-allowed integer module widths. It intentionally provides no universal pass/fail threshold: use the current symbology and application specification applicable to your work.
