Assumptions and warnings

  • Roll yield is a geometric approximation and includes 3% waste; reconcile it with actual supplier yield.
  • Ribbon usage assumes one label across and one pitch of ribbon per label.
  • Confirm actual printhead resolution, ribbon compatibility, media sensing and calibration before production.
  • Whole-unit purchase total rounds rolls and ribbons up; proportional cost values consumed material. Tax, shipping, downtime and unentered costs are excluded.

Formula and method

The planner reuses the validated dot conversion, ZPL sizing, roll geometry, ribbon yield and cost modules. Whole consumable requirements are rounded up; consumption and purchasing totals are kept separate.

Worked example

The default 10,000-label, 100 × 75 mm job on a 12 dots/mm printhead calculates 1,200 × 900 dots and ^PW1200 / ^LL900, then derives estimated whole roll and ribbon requirements.

How to interpret the result

Export the estimate, share a URL containing non-sensitive inputs, and approve a calibrated test print before production.

Limitations

Roll yield remains a geometric estimate. Confirm actual printhead resolution, supplier roll yield, ribbon compatibility, printer limits, barcode requirements and calibration before release.
